A General catergory
The last time I looked for a job, it was a case of looking in the local paper and the job center. If you were a skilled person you could use one of those new fangled employment agency places. If I go back to my last year of school and Mr Hoy our career teacher, in those days application letters were formal affair sent in the post to your prospective employer with a stamped addressed envelope enclosed if you wanted a reply. I particularly remember Mr Hoy telling the class that if an application letter was not written with a fountain pen then a certain employer would throw the letter in the bin regardless of your qualifications. Now a days you must have a CV, in my early days in was an application letter to introduce yourself and if your application letter got you to the next stage it was then a large application form. But now the CV has taken over, it is submitted with all letters of application it has to be submitted to job web sites and employment agency before they will even show an interest in you.Today the greater percentage of jobs are now advertised via job web site with the job advert coming from employment agencies. Jobs are no longer regularly advertised in the local paper. I can’t comment on the current trend with job centers as I have not been in one for years but I hope the little female Hitler who always seemed to be on my case when I last went in there is no longer there. One thing that has not changed is the job interview, but even now these have changed, with informal phone interviews now being part of the application process for some companies. Talking of interview, I do raise a wry smile for the Pepsi advert on TV at the moment, (won’t bore you with the details but you can see it here) just wonder if anybody has tried it yet.The reason I am talking employment agencies and job applications is that I am wondering if I should look for another job, while I enjoy my job I am being treated like s**t. But I go back to my question in my first blogg should I wait to be pushed or jump and loose what redundancy I would be entitled to??Until the next blog good night
Trip to head office this week…………I quite enjoy the early morning drives, its just getting out of bed which is the problem. When I left at 5-50am the sun was out but it was lovely and cool, so cool in fact that I had to turn the car heater on. But these bright summer morning must wake everybody up early as there is a noticeable higher level of traffic on the roads at this time in the morning during the summer compared to those cold damp December mornings. Also more noticeable at this time of the morning is the road kill, two dead deer at two separate locations this morning and one very large pool of blood (well the stain on the road from the pool of blood), no body just a very large red patch on the concrete dual carriageway(A419).On a more pleasant note the sunrises can be very nice as well, I have done a couple of very early morning drives and have watched the sun rise from the first ray of light breaking through the sky on the horizon. Some of the sites off my fellow travelers can be interesting. I expect to see at least one white van man drinking his morning coffee from one of those silver insulated mugs. There will be the BMW\AUDI\Lexus driver in the outside lane on his mobile gesticulating to the person on the other end of the phone. The women checking her makeup in the mirror, the guy on the push bike who certainly has the morning after the night before look and finally there the one who is still a sleep and drives accordingly.Well I have another early morning so I am having another early night so that I don’t fit into any of the catergories I mentioned above.
I never blogged on Saturday is that allowed??Well the weather forecast from Friday for Saturday was correct, the wind was in the right direction, westerly – ish. Managed to get out early to do the shopping then back home to load the car and get to the park around mid day. In fact we timed it right as the Kite Surf training schools were just packing up. Unfortunately the wind was up and down like a yo-yo for the first few hours, 0mph to 15mph and back again every few minutes, not much fun. Around three o’clock the wind came in at a steady strenght but it was still blustery. With the wind it became cold so after packing up and heading home we decided that we would give the BBQ a miss and cook the food on the cooker\grill.Had the joys on an Indian call centre last night, our broadband was down when we came back home so I left it a while, then tried some of the trick I knew to try and bring it back to life but nothing worked. In the end I called tech support and after the nice English lady gave me directions on the telephone menu system I ended up in an Indian call centre. Well the lady was obviously reading from a script based on a single windows PC (I have 6 computers, a mix of windows and Linux running behind a firewall). Well it was going no where my network was working perfectly all the tests I tried showed my network was ok. The Set Top Box (I’m on cable and have cable TV as well) was displaying an error on the connection to the Internet, this was of no interest to the lady in India, in the end I gave up and put the phone down. Funny 10 minutes later my Internet came back to life!!Had a long lay in this morning even by my weekend standards, something to do with going to sleep close to 2-00am. Had to go to the Hampshire branch of the company I work for to collect something I need for tomorrow. So we came back via the New Forest and spent a couple of hours wandering around the wood (and mud) taking photographs. It was quite cool in the trees and quite muddy (not as bad as last week when I left my shoe in the mud and got my feet covered in mud!).I enjoy going out to the New Forest keep trying to find corners of it I have not been to (there a lot of them at the moment). This was another one of those places, in fact I am even sure where we were (the we being the wife and I) except that it was not far off the main A337 and brought us out in Burley when we left. I timed my return home just right to collect our son from neighbours at the time I said we would be back, well that was until we decided to stop and get fuel ready for my trip to head office tomorrow, 25 minute after arriving on the forecourt we left, just very busy with two of the six pumps out of action, it also happens to be one of the cheapest petrol stations in the area (and it is not a supermarket petrol station).Well I have to be up early for my 300 mile round trip tomorrow so I going to have an early night.
With a title like that I am really showing my age!My son does not know the benefit of having a lie in yet, he will get up around 7-30am at the weekend and go down stairs and watch kids TV, I don’t understand the cartoons that he watches. Try to get him to understand that the only cartoons I ever saw on TV when I was his age were either over a holiday period when they had the Disney show was on or Tom and Jerry came or if I was really lucky Popeye. Try telling him that when I was his age, there were only two TV channels, pictures were all black and white and TV did not run all day I just get told that was ages ago, thanks I feel really old now.Well its the weekend, best days weather for me looks like tomorrow, so it means I will be up early tomorrow and out early to get the shopping done. Then its back home load up the car and then of to my local flying site, not no planes or helicopters, but kites…………..traction kites to be exact, that my past time, well one of them at least. I will hopefully spend the day cruising up and down the field, talking and joking with other fellow kite flyer’s. Then around tea time it will be home to a BBQ, sounds like a perfect day lets just hope it goes as planned, very little else has this week.Having worked out my timetable for work next week, it was bad enough that I had to go to head office twice next week, even worse one of those days was next Friday for a meeting (280 mile round trip). Well this afternoon a PC popped it clogs so now I have to go up on Monday, had already organised an engineer to visit to carry out some installation work on Tuesday (unrelated job) which was my other planned days to be at head office which I can’t change so now I have to be there three days next week. I think that next week will be a long testing week.Well before I get too depressed about next weeks work I will try to live life to the full this weekend, I may not have won the euro lottery tonight (some lucky Spaniard has that privilege) but I will enjoy myself and attempt to wake up Monday morning with a smile on my face (yeah some hope!!).
Rolled over in bed this morning thinking I could have a lie in as it was Saturday, that illusion was soon shattered as the radio alarm clock burst into life (the alarm is set not to come on on Saturdays and Sundays), through my bleary brain I soon realised that it was Thursday and in fact I could not have even a small lie in as I needed to leave a few minutes earlier than normal. As I left home listening to the car radio I heard one of the main roads I had to travel along was closed due to an accident, you can see my day was not starting well. It got worse when I had to divert from my diversion as the road a head was blocked with a broken down car…………ho hum I wished was Saturday and I was still in bed. Thankfully my day did not get any worse although it did not get much better either.Spent the last few hours sorting a video from 2006, like most people when we first got the video camera we just filmed whatever we wanted then copied it all to disk as a video file (compared to raw footage) complete with shakes blurry images etc. So I thought I would chop out the junk and make a half decent video, not so bad now but still need some more tweaking and a audio track rather than wind rustling through the microphone on the camera.Talking of wind already started checking the weather for the weekend, wind is forecast in the right direction, sunny periods as well. If the forecast is correct then I think I will go out and play.Maybe if the weather stays nice I will get the BBQ out for its second outing this year and then there the gazebo to go up, but first the grass needs cutting which means all the edges need strimming but first I need to clean the shed out as I can’t get the mower out of the shed………………………………and so it go on.Maybe I will just go to bed Friday night and get up on Monday!
