As I mentioned yesterday I have been on creak finding duties again. I have spent the day dismantling the back-end of my bike, from the crank back everything was removed, cleaned and refitted, I started just after the rugby finished (well done New Zealand) and finished at about 4pm after a ride up and down the road revealed no more creaking. I did not find anything definitive but I felt that the cassette was not as tight as it should of been (I did not have to put a lot of effort in to moving the locking nut) when I came to remove it from the rear wheel. I had not checked the cassette up until that point as I only refitted it a few weeks ago when I fitted a new one to replace the worn one. I always tighten cassette up with a torque wrench so if it was loose I am not sure why.
It never ceases to amaze me when I am working on my bike how many tools I end up using, this is all the more obvious when you come to put everything away. I don’t have a shed or garage to work in, so I work outside (thankfully the weather was good if a bit windy) so I have to put it all back in the shed when I am finished. Add to the list of tools all the other bits like rags, cleaning liquids, lubrication, bike stands the list is endless and it all has to go back in the shed.
I am a motorsport fan, I like watching 4 wheels and two wheel sport (3, 6 and 8 wheeled as well). But it has not been a good time for motorsport this past week. We lost Dan Wheldon in that big Indy car crash last weekend and we have lost Marco Smoncelli in the MotoGP this morning. They will both be deeply missed from there chosen sport. On a positive note Poole Pirates Speedway team won both the league and knock Out cup this year.
Well I am out of here, roll on Wednesday when I am on holiday……..
But tomorrow never comes as my mum says
I woke up this morning to the sound of the wind howling and looking out the window the pampas grass was swaying around madly in the wind and the roads were wet with rain, just then the duvet called out my name so I went back to bed, this morning ride never happened. I wanted to go out riding this weekend but the inner wimp won the battle this weekend. While there is always tomorrow I am out for the weekly weigh in so I won’t be riding tomorrow either.
I spent the morning working on the Cannondale, only three jobs to do on the bike now, strip and re-grease the peddles, measure & fit the chain (see below) and then strip and re-grease the headset. I have not done a headset before but as this is a basic headset it has loose ball bearing (which I will probably replace anyway) so it is a case of strip clean and re-grease and re-assemble. I want to measure the chain to ensure it is the right length, as opposed to counting the links on the existing chain as I have had a lot of chain suck on this bike so I want to measure the length to ensure that the it is not to long and slapping about and causing the chain suck.
This afternoon I took a PC I had built from bits over to a friend for her daughter, only to get a phone call when I got back home saying the mouse is dead. Not sure what is going on but no amount of coaxing over the phone would persuade it to work. Unfortunately I can’t get over there until Tuesday night now.
While on line the other night somebody posted a link to a youtube video of some early mountain bike racing (XC type). Watch the video below, these pioneers of the mountain bike riding are not hanging around and take some hefty falls. While it is German video (I think), listen to the “OOo’s”, “ah’s”, applause and occasional gasp from the crowd.
Talking of falling off your mountain bike, I think I have worked out why my hip hurts, back in all the ice over xmas I fell of my bike and landed in a heap in the road on my right hip (thankfully it was a quite road). This morning I found that I can feel a metal bar through the foam padding on the drivers seat of my car. This bar run right next to my hip and I think the foam has moved. Not sure what I can do about the bar in the car seat but the car is due for replacement in July this year.
For the past couple of weeks my new blog posted message has not been appearing on Facebook. After much messing about I gave up with the WordPress plug-in and went in search of a new plug-in, wish I had not bothered. These status up-daters seem to work (or not in my case) by linking a mobile phone to your Facebook account and fooling Facebook into thinking that the blog update message is in fact a Facebook status update (which I guess it is in away). Now there seem to be something wrong with Facebook as it won’t let me “Activate a Phone”. Everytime I try it keeps coming back saying that the confirmation code it sent me (like 10 seconds ago) is invalid (its only 6 digits long) and I have now tried so many times I am now blocked from trying anymore!! So now I waiting for the Facebook help forum to help me out, not holding my breath………………
With winds around 30mph and gust to 49mph I decided today was not a good day to go for a cycle, locally or Swindon (as I had planned). So instead I went for a walk and quick sand blast along the beach at Sandbanks. Got back in time to watch the rugby this afternoon 6 Nations matches. I think the poorest display from the 3 matches was the Irish, they only just beat the Italian who I think were unlucky to lose. England got off to a great start last night, it was not brilliant as there were to many mistakes. France put in a solid display this afternoon which won them the support of there fans after the fans boo-ed them of the pitch late last year after a large defeat. Scotland showed they had fight and the spirit to win so I would have to put Scotland above Wales, so my totally “Unofficial arm chair supporter don’t know what I am talking about league table of who had the best match” for the first round of the 6 nations look like this
Like I said, what do I know……………
Hopefully the wind will have dropped enough tomorrow for me to go for a ride, not sure where I am going to ride yet as I don’t know what the river level is like so will have to see what the morning brings
