I am quite happy to turn my hand to most things around the house, I know there are certain area out of my reach like the central heating boiler. So when we ordered a new cooker I thought no problem I can wire that in. So the night before delivery I thought I would check out what is involved in wiring it in, more to the point what does the back of the cooker where I need to wire it up look like, this was when the fun started. First I could not find any info on the cooker apart for marketing spiel. I also found out that I am not allowed to wire in my own kitchen appliances any-more, I also found out that depending on the type of walls I have determines the size of the cable I require (along with the Kw of the cooker), this now looks like a job for a professional.
So then I start phoning up friends and family for recommendations for an electrician, hell they are in demand. Either nobody knew one or they also needed an electrician, so that was a fruitless search . My problems are further compounded as we arranged that the old cooker would be taken away by the delivery company, but I can’t risk removing the old cooker and not knowing when we can get the new cooker hooked up, I might end up having to have bits replaced which will take longer (and cost more).
The only positive thing to come out of this was I was able to purchase the cooker with my daughter staff discount card so I got a discount, which now looks like it will be paying in part the cost of a electrician to hook the cooker up to the mains.
