I think the riding has caught up with me, went out yesterday for a ride in the morning, did a couple of loops around the local heath, playing in the mud. Unfortunately the Cannondale was not very happy with the mud. Two problems that I knew I had to fix have become worse, a grumbling headset and bottom bracket (bb). The headset is a simple-ish fix as it loose ball bearing so just need to strip fit new bearing (which I have now got) and put it back together. Unfortunately the bb is a bit more involved, the bb which is fitted is one of those cheap throw away units. I have managed to get my hands on a second hand Shimano XT crank and bb, but I still need to sort out the chain rings (I think two of my current chain rings will fit) plus I need the tools to remove the old bb and a tool to fit the new one, this dam biking is not cheap.
Sundays ride (on the Whyte) was the same as I have done over the past few weeks, out to Moors Valley and back. Some of the fire roads at Moors Valley were hard work today, they held the Rallye Sunseeker out there yesterday and some of the fire roads were badly ripped up. This week I remembered to charge my little digital camera and had intended to video the bike trail route at Moors Valley. Unfortunately it started to rain as I started the trail and I gave up and put the camera away after the first 1.5 miles. I will post the best bits of what I shot later in the week, I set the camera a little to high this week so the shots I have got are a little hit and miss. By the time I finished the trail the rain had stopped and then started again about 2 miles from home, had to stop and put my “boil in the bag” rain jacket on.
Hope the three rides I have done since last Monday count for something at the weigh in tomorrow, being stressed I have been naughty with the eating, will have to wait and see.
For the first time in many weeks I have ridden both Saturday and Sunday, for the last few week it has only been one or the other.
I was up early and again the weather forecaster were right, no rain, cloudy and bit cool. I opted for a short sleeve t-shirt and my jumper this morning along with the padded shorts. IT was certainly cooler on the arms and legs as I went down the road this morning but I soon warmed up. Like last week I had been concerned that the river would be up but there no sign of it flooding, there was more chance of drowning in mud than water. There was mud every where along the river and through Hurn Forest although the worst was saved till last. Did exactly the same run as last week and this time the GPS recorded the route without a problem, it was the Muvi video camera that did not work, might have helped if I had charged it up!!
When I got to the “Through the Forest Trail” I pushed it to see how fast I could do it (I thought at the time I was videoing it as well). I did the 4.5 miles in 28 minutes which is about 9.6mph and I slowed down quite a bit from the last mile, I am no fast riders that is for sure.
I was trying to keep up a good pace, I wanted to complete the ride in under 4 hours. I did not feel to hot like yesterdays ride, in fact in the shaded area I felt a bit cold. When I got to Ferndown heath I came across the worst mud of the entire ride, giant lakes of mud and water across the paths, I just dropped it into granny ring and plodded through the mud, quite impressed really as I cleared it all.
I got back home and checked the the GPS to see the stats, I did the ride in 3hrs, 49 min, I was disappointed to note that the route was not 32.5 which I calculated last week but 31.2. Of the three times I have ridden this route now, today I felt the best during and after the ride, which is even better when you considered I had the short ride yesterday.
Tomorrow is weight in night, I think I have had a good week, I will let the scales be the judge of that though………….
It was weight in night tonight and I stayed the same as last week. I had thought it might be marginal, there had been a few extra during the week, nothing great just a sandwich here, bottle of wine there (just the one bottle). So to stay the same I am thankful for.
Dentist early this morning for root canal round 2, the gunk he put in my tooth on the last visit to kill the nerve worked as I could not feel him drilling it out. Then he found the third nerve which was very much alive so the dentist filled my tooth with gunk again and I have to go back in about 4 weeks to have the third nerve removed.
Yesterday there was no riding, as forecast it rained and the wind blew. I spent yesterday morning servicing my DMR V8 pedal from the Cannondale. I had to stand the bike in the rain to remove the pedals as there no room to put the bike on the floor in the shed (bike normally hangs on the wall). I had intended to set the new chain up on the bike (actually measure the chain to ensure it is the correct length. But with the bike dripping wet from standing in the rain I was told in no uncertain terms the bike was not allowed into the kitchen, so that a job for one night in the week. I spent yesterday afternoon editing a bit of video I took with my Muvi Digital Camera. Editing the film was easy, trying to get the film into a format I wanted was a pain in the arse but I got it sorted in the end.
Unfortunately I ran out of time to upload it last night and as I had intended to post it in my blog I never got to write this blog. So I started the upload this evening when I got back from Slimming World, well at least I though I had. Checked the PC 40 minute later 0% uploaded, seem like the upload process fell over before it started. So I restarted it and it is going quite slowly and has another 45 minutes to go as I type so it has missed tonight blog post, ho hum.
When I got up this morning and lifted the blind over the window I realised that the car had not moved off the drive since Friday night, don’t ask me why it came to me at that moment as I don’t have a clue. In fact I only went out the house on Sunday to go to the shed, when the daughter came in from work at 4 o’clock we had to unlock the front door for her as it was still locked from where she had locked it when she left for work at 8 o’clock yesterday morning.
It has been a busy few days, not sure what I have to show for it though. To aid the wife’s search for employment I have built a web site for her. We were looking for an easy way to access her CV so that she could pass it on when she is out and about rather than carry paper copies that end up getting creased. So after much head scratching and thinking we ended up with a simple web site where anybody can read it and download a copy as well and all she needs to do is pass on the web site address to anybody that show interest. I had the hosting space already so I bought the domain name and the rest is history. Anybody wants to take a peek you will find the site here. I welcome any constructive comments.
Last night was weigh in night and it was another loss, 1.5lbs to be exact, not as much as I would of liked but a loss is a loss and considering the bottle of wine, meal out (father-in-laws birthday) and some hot cross buns I consumed during the week I will take it. I really want to keep on the straight and narrow with the diet this week so I can have a good loss and get rid of this xmas baggage I am still carrying.
Hopefully going to start editing my first Muvi film to night (it is currently importing into the editing software as I type), it is not going to be anything special but hey I will have some fun.
Sat down and had a think about the work I need to do on the Cannondale last night and it is going to have to wait till funds permit, I have spent a bit more money on the bikes than I intended to this past few week and as sod law would have it, one of the items I need to replace on the Cannondale is on a very good deal online at the moment, don’t you just hate it when that happens?
Intending to have go riding both days this weekend, which is something I don’t think I have done since the beginning of the year. Then the following week I am off to Barbury (near Swindon) for a ride. I want to try and find another long route (25\30 miles) I can ride from home. I have several around the 12 to 20 mark I want to push the distance on a little bit. I could do the ride I did on Sunday but ride from home but then a third of the ride is road riding (main roads at that) but I hate riding on the main roads and there no real alternatives.
It has only taken 35 days but my Christmas present arrived today, bear in mind this is the second one they sent me, not the original that disappeared into the ether (or was that snow drift?) before Christmas.
I got a Muvi micro digital camera and yes it is really that small. Currently doing some secret recording of the wife doing Wii fit while I type this (she won’t be happy), just to testing purpose’s honest 🙂
Hopefully the new chain for my bike will arrive tomorrow and I can then finish prepping the bike ready for the weekend rides. Decided to put the mud tyres on the Whyte, with the amount of rain we have had the last two days and the amount they are forecasting till Friday, maybe a rubber dingy and life belt would be a better option.
