OK so I am pinching this idea from another blog, the idea is to have a page of my cycling and diet targets and mark them off as I pass each target. In fact I did have that idea a while ago when I trying to get to 17.5st by a certain date (and failed).
So what are my targets going to be? Well as riding goes I am going to set four for the moment and they are
- Complete a single 30 mile ride – Done, 30.9 miler from home to Colehill, Horton Tower and home again
- Complete a single 40 mile ride
- Complete a single 50 mile ride
- Ride up both Ballard Down and Brenscombe hill (Nine Barrow Down) without getting off to push the bike (approaching both from the Corfe Castle side), both these hills are in the Purbecks
All these rides are off road and hopefully I will have achieved them by Aug 1st 2011
While you can’t measure this one (although it is linked to Ballard and Brenscombe rides), I want to improve my hill climbing. This will improve with the more weight I lose as the basics are, if there is less of me to go up the hill, I will climb easier.
As for my diet, it is to lose weight, simple. But setting a target is a tough one, how much do I want to lose, what weight would I like to be. I think ultimately I want to get down to around 11 stone but that is a dam big ask. In the past I have not set a target weight I would like to get down to because it is so far away and I did not want to fail trying. Having seen what happened with my 17.5st target by a certain date I am not sure if I should set a target weight.
Many years ago I was told by the doctor that my ideal weight is 10.5st (yes I once weighted 10.5st). I felt at this weight I looked skinny and felt that at 11st I looked better. Now I can only long to be that weight but at least I am doing something about it.
