By | 22/10/2026

With I got s surprise the other days, went away to Devon for a couple of days and the owner of the B & B said he read my blog, never met anybody that has read it, to be perfectly honest never even given it a thought that somebody reads what I have written.

So here is an update of what happened since February in no particular order:

  • We lost two holiday
  • One of our cats has got Epilepsy
  • I am deaf
  • My Knee has given up
  • Train Room
  • Garden update
  • New Shed

Epiletic Cat

In April Molly the smaller of our two cats started having fits. On a Friday night we rushed her to an out of hours vets after having 5 fits upto 9pm, and with way things were developing another was due at 11pm-ish. The vet gave her the once over and recommended some medication and a return to our normal vets in the morning. Fortunately Molly was OK overnight and rather than disturb Molly went up to the vets to discuss the evenings events. It was decided to refer her to a specialist Vet that deals with Epilepsy (who knew there were Vet Specialists).

Our specialist vets was not that far from us. While this was going on I decided that I needed to speak to the cat insurance company, oh dear this was a mess. In short, while we had filled out two separate insurance enrolments their IT system, messed up and setup one policy with both cats details. Once they found that out they had to Investigate and I would be informed once it was resolved. What this meant was I made lots of phone call to be told there no update.

Eventually they said I would need to setup a second  policy who would I like the first one to cover, I said Molly for obvious reasons. Thankfully the insurance company have covered all the vet bills to day. Molly is on two different medications and has not had a fit since May. She has however become adversed to being put into the large cat carrier for vet visits and for blood sample to be taken.

Lost Holiday

We had a 3 day weekend and a full week away planned for the early part of the year. With Molly epilepsy we had to cancel. We needed to make sure that the medication was working. We managed a full day out with our son and daughter monitoring and feeding Molly. As things progressed we booked 2 nights away in Devon which I found out about my blog reader). It was nice to get away even though thing did not quite work out as well as they should of. It could now be several months before we get the chance to get away again.

My Knee has given up

Trying to do the right thing to help with my weight and from recommendation from the doctor, I went swimming. Not a good idea, I started once a week swimming for about 40 minutes. Before I knew it I was struggling to walk. Doing the breast stroke was putting undue pressure on my knee joint and I could barely walk. I could do the front crawl but I was never much good at that. So for the last 3 months I have been hobbling around cursing the doctor for telling me to go swimming.

I am Deaf

While continuing the trait of blaming the doctors, I told them several years ago I found it hard to hear out of my left ear. The surgery gave me a hearing test ina noisy room in the surgery, nothing wrong they declared. Struggling to hear and my ear feeling blacked I went to have my ear de-waxed. Nothing ion your ear they declare and recommend I self request an audiology test. A couple of month later I am sat in a acoustically silent room having a hearing test. Shocked to find out I have moderate hearing loss in my left ear. I  am told I need a hearing aid, I was speechless. I have them fitted next week.

Garden Update

Well after posting the before and after photos of the garden from last year. I have worked hard to keep it tidy and replanted with plants and not brambles and weeds. Down the left-hand side of the garden and along the bottom until the middle of the garden is slowly taking the shape of a planted garden. I am using bark chippings and weed mesh to keep the weeds at bay. Not really got enough done but the summer heat was to extreme for me. I have simply plodded on, have a rough plan for the next bit and we will see what happens.

A new Shed

As a result of the work in the garden and the replacement of the lawn mower, it soon became apparent we need a new shed. The old was has down well for 23 years, it is seriously rotting and falling down. A new shed is on order, we need to clean a patch of concrete for it to be erected on by mid Nov. Then the slow job of moving the item over clearing the rubbish to the tip and pulling the old shed down.

Train Room

Before I retired I had to come up with a hobby for while I was retired. I decided on model trains, I actually started in February 2025 but I was still using the now train room as an office. There was only so far I could go. I started buying rolling stock and track, built a table for part of the layout. It was not until I retired that my desk could be removed, some cupboard demolition could be undertaken. Once completed a new built in table top was put in place. I joined it up to the earlier built table top. With around 85% of the track laid, scenery is starting to be put in place. I have a lot of wiring to be start, but trains have run to test the track. No photo yet as it is very disorganised mess at present.

Thats is for this round, will try and get a another blog out before the end of the year.
